It is not the first time that these countries have been used by UK Gambling organisations. 2. Often it is easier to make an all-in bet than to make the call. In this instance, all you got to do is decide to bet only when you are certain that the opponent will fold.

3. If your chips are strong you can try bullying your opponents to fold. If you lose in an all-in, you may lose some chips but your opponents will lose all and they will drop out of the game.

4. Do not choose all-in if you are bluffing. If you do not have the best hand then make sure that you will in the remaining cards that need to be dealt.

5. Refrain from having a short stack of chips. Your opponents who want you out of the tournament may choose to call you because you have less chips than theirs. That means if you lose, you are out and one less opponent for them. If your opponent call you then you need to win under such circumstances.

6. If your cards are really really good and you are low on chips then all-in is in order. Anyways, with a short stack of chips, you will most likely be called not just once. If you are in a good position, you might have the opportunity to triple your money.

7. If somebody calls all-in against you, find out why he did. Is he short-stacked? Bullying you into submission? Or, he only goes all-in with nuts? Weigh the considerations carefully before deciding to call.

Although we had visited several horse races previously, none had impressed us as much as Royal Ascot. From the moment we arrived we had been taken by the occasion. The pretty dresses, the spectacular hats, the gentlemen in top hat and tails; they all contribute to a sense of occasion, something that perhaps is missing in the modern Britain of today, where mostly casual dress is de rigour, even in the theatre and quite often the opera. Recently we saw Puccini's La Bohemme in La Scala in Milan, and just about everyone was dressed for the occasion. It just adds an extra dimension to proceedings, just as in Royal Ascot.

We had done some online sports betting on the Royal Hunt Cup. Our choice was Forgotten Voice ridden by Johnny Murtagh, one of our favourite though often controversial jockeys. We had chosen this horse because we liked the simple pure mauve silk in which Murtagh was racing. Of course, the outstanding performance of this, as yet unbeaten, horse in its last three races might also have influenced our choice slightly.

The final horse had been loaded into the stall and the race was about to start when one horse decided to sit down. This spooked a couple of other horses and suddenly it was all chaos. Rather than re-settling the horses the starter decided to withdraw the three miscreants and send the rest of the huge field off for their one mile run.

Quickly the field divided into two packs, one at each side of the course. The race was fast and furious but, with over a furlong to go, Forgotten Voice took the lead and no other horse could come near. We were overjoyed as his mauve silk led the pack. This had been our biggest bet and we had bet on the nose at about 9 to 2. This easily covered our admittance, petrol, expenses and previous losses. We could even afford a couple of losses on the last two races and still go home in pocket. This was turning into a great day, though we did feel sorry for the horses that had been excluded from the race. Our experience of betting on the first race of the day, the Jersey Stakes, could have been better. After much deliberation we had chosen the favourite, Saucy Brown, but out of our sight something went wrong and when it passed us on the railings it was trailing the field. The second race was the Windsor Forest Stakes. This race was for fillies and mares of four years and upwards and was run over one mile. We studied the card and the odds but we found it difficult to choose between Heaven Sent and Spacious. Heaven Sent was ridden by Ryan Moore, one of our favourite jockeys. It was a Sir Michael Stoute trained horse and was showing good form, thus it ticked all of our boxes. Spacious was ridden by J Muztagh, another of our favourite jockeys. It was trained by J Fanshawe and came from Cheverly Park, the same stables as Heaven Sent. The bookies were offering 10 to 1 on Spacious and 5 to 2 on Heaven Sent. Our strategy for the day was betting only on wins and to not place any each way bets. This is not always the best strategy. We went for Heaven Sent to win. It came in second, the race winner being Spacious.

Well, we chose the first and second horses; it was just that our betting methodology could have been better. Two races and two losses, things could only improve, but it was the big one next and we had a pretty clear idea about that one.

In the Silver Circle there are some free small grandstand seats available, and we thought that it might be a good place to view the big race despite the fact that it was now raining quite steadily and most people with hiding underneath umbrellas. Apparently it had been my responsibility to remember the umbrella just as it was my fault that Heaven Sent had come second. Refreshments were called for.
