More and more research is pointing to the benefits of Vitamin D during pregnancy, but this great pregnancy nutrient has so many additional functions in the body. Vitamin D's role is fundamentally calcium maintenance; in this role it maintains the healthy calcium levels in your bones. When pregnant, vitamin D may work in a similar fashion. However, this individual vitamin also touches hundreds of discrete genes and to affect a lot of areas of wellbeing.

The research surrounding vitamin D is expanding on a daily basis, and recently the American Academy of Dermatology has updated their recommendations to caution the public not to not getting sufficient vitamin D. Vitamin D insufficiency is where you do not have the optimal amount of vitamin D circulating in your body, but are not identifiably deficient in the nutrient. In reference to their new guidelines, the American Academy of Dermatology's new guidance is as follows:

"The vitamin D position statement supports the Academy's long-held conviction on safe ways to get this important vitamin - through a healthy diet which incorporates foods naturally rich in vitamin D, vitamin D-fortified foods and beverages, and vitamin D supplements," said David Pariser, president of the American Academy of Dermatology.

"The updated recommendation for individuals who practice daily sun protection acknowledges that while protecting the skin from the damaging rays of the sun is important, so is maintaining adequate vitamin D levels. Concern about vitamin D should not lead people to forego sun protection, but rather prompt a conversation with their physician about how to ensure adequate and safe vitamin D intake while guarding against skin cancer."

Does this alter the guidance on vitamin D and pregnancy? Not specifically. You should still get acceptable sun exposure to manufacture the vitamin and acquire the rest through a healthy and balanced diet. Supplementation may help as well.

You hear those stories about a wonderful natural birth, and to be honest I never believed them, until I experienced my own. I did this thanks to The Pink Kit.

The Pink Kit is a well recognized resource for mothers wanting a natural childbirth. It contains information and techniques that allow you to have control during your birth.

The Pink Kit contains a book, a DVD and a CD. The information described in every chapter in the book is then also plainly demonstrated on the DVD. It is the ultimate natural childbirth resource.

If more women used The Pink Kit there would be fewer Cesarean Sections in the world. It is slowly achieving high praise and is being recommended by many midwives.

The Pink Kit explains precisely what happens to the bony structure, the soft tissues and the muscles in the pelvis area whilst you are in labor. You even learn how to map your own pelvis so you are able to open the area for your baby to come through as easily as possible.

In the end, how you birth will depend on the shape of your pelvis. The kit shows you precisely how to work out the shape of your pelvis, no one else teaches this! Based on your pelvis shape you will know which birth position will work for you. It all makes perfect sense when you think about it.

It also shows you how to breathe properly, control the pain and how to adjust positions whilst in labor. One impressive technique was to massage your perineum in order to stop you 'tearing'.

Plus, the kit encourages partner involvement. In this way your partner will be an vital part of the natural childbirth process. My husband found it very useful and it gave him a lot of self-confidence when the time came for birth.

Whilst in labor I couldnt remember everything (for obvious reasons) and my husband was able to actually guide and direct me.

The Pink Kit gave me the knowledge of my body that allowed me to help my baby out easily, by adjusting my position.

For Natural Childbirth you need to be fit, healthy and rested. But for the best preparation you should get The Pink Kit. I'm indebted to it.

Have you been invited to a baby shower? Whether it is before or after the blessed event, it can be difficult picking just the right item. So why try? Instead, think about baby gift baskets. Baby gift baskets make fun gifts as the mother-to-be pulls one wonderful item after another from the basket.

As the guest of honor, the mom-to-be has lots of fun. A baby shower can certainly save the new mom from having to do a lot of shopping. But for the guests, shopping for a baby shower can be tough. You don't want your gift to simply blend in with all the others. You want the new mom-to-be excited when she opens your gift. An easy way to accomplish all that is by thinking about baby gift baskets.

Once you've got your gift chosen, it is now time for you to have fun. Very often games will be played at baby showers. You might end up winning a prize and have a gift of your own to take home!

One popular game has to do with nursery rhymes. If you read them to your children (or are reading them to your grandchildren) then you'll probably do fine. There are many variations of this game. In one variation, you need to know the name of the rhyme. In another variation you need to know how it finishes.

In another game, pieces of ribbon are cut with one perfectly fitting the girth of the new mom. Can you guess which is the right piece of ribbon?

Have you considered a blind taste test of baby food? Each jar has the label removed and, instead, it has a number. Then you have the opportunity to taste the food in each jar. You get a piece of paper with a list of numbers and, next to each number, you write what you think is in the jar. Of course the one guessing the most right wins.

Be sure to bested and have your memory in tip top shape. If you were to look into a box, for a few seconds, that is filled with baby items like a bib or baby spoon could you remember everything that was in the box? Quickly write down what you remember seeing and maybe win a prize.

Baby gift baskets allow you to relax at the shower. Have fun. Watch the mom-to-be light up as she opens your gift and starts looking at all of the wonderful items inside.

Shopping for impressive baby gifts

The arrival of a baby is most often a thrilling event, anticipated by the parents, their families and friends. The mothers' bellies are rubbed for good luck and dads gather to plan the future of their future Major League baseball star. Everyone is excited and can't wait to cuddle the newborn.

It is tradition that joyful events are celebrated with laughter, cake and gifts. The coffee brews, the tea kettle whistles and the house is filled with enthusiastic visitors. At the end of the corridor is a table filled with brightly wrapped gifts and, as you eagerly approach that destination, you suddenly start to wonder if your gift is going to be good enough.

Shopping for impressive baby gifts requires consideration and the more you know about the expecting parents the easier your gift selection will be. To prepare yourself, make a list of all the things you know about the parents and their unborn child.

- Is a girl, boy or possibly twins expected?
- What is the furniture style of the baby's room?
- Is the room lacking any key accessories, such as bedding, a changing table, or a baby monitor? Do they have a car seat, flip top diaper hamper, or travel changing mat?
- Which is the dominant color in the room?
- Have the parents picked a theme for the nursery, such as animals, racecars, Disney characters or sports?
- Is this a first-born? If the parents have other children, they may already have a bouncer, a play gym, educational toys and a colorful mobile.
- Is the family religious? In this case, certain gifts may be more appreciated than others.

If you are a dear friend, your many questions will be answered with ease, but if you are not, you may need to investigate. Do not hesitate to talk to co-workers, or call a close relative of the expecting couple. You will be surprised how eager everyone will be to share information and before you know it, you will have all the data you need to make an informed gift decision.

Now that you are familiar with the expecting parents you will have to examine your own expectations. Do you want your gift to be practical, fun or lasting?

Practical - Depending on the your budget, and the financial situation of the parents, you could consider buying diapers, clothes, bath products, a stroller, a high chair, safety locks or child safety gates.

Fun - Babies need to be stimulated, which can be achieved through baby and toddler books, musical or moving play things, or any other object that will keep the baby occupied for a while. Just make sure your gift is age appropriate and meets all safety standards.

Lasting - A nice outfit, a swing or a Baby Einstein CD are appreciated presents, but if you think about it, they will only be used for a short period of time. Fortunately there are gifts that can last for many years, even a lifetime. Included in this list are, starting a savings account or college fund, a picture album of the baby's relatives, and personalized gifts. Many adults still have a name-engraved silver baby spoon, or their bronzed first pair of shoes.

You see, impressing new parents with an extraordinary gift is easier than you think. Just remember, despite your intense research, you may still buy the wrong high chair or bouncer seat. For that reason, always include a return receipt!

They are adorable and, from afar, they look like pretty flowers, sometimes held by a soft, stuffed giraffe, monkey or teddy bear. They are adorable and decorative blooms that, when viewed in close-up, reveal that they are not really products of nature.
Baby bouquets are not made from flowers, but are merely a compilation of quality baby clothes carefully wrapped to look like blooms.

Baby bouquets can be:
• Wonderful baby shower centerpieces
• Taken to hospitals were fresh flowers and live plants are not allowed
• A wonderful and impressive gift to celebrate the birth of a baby
• Delivered as a birthday gift for an expecting mother
• Presented at a christening or baptism
• Unique surprise gifts at any time during pregnancy or shortly after a delivery
As adorable and fun as baby bouquets look, they also are very practical. Most bouquets are assembled bearing a layette in mind, an assortment of matching ensembles. They can contain socks, singlets, bibs, bodysuits, jumpsuits, pants, beanies, shirts, onesies, diapers, and much more.

Blooms can come in a variety of colors. Blue for boys and pink for girls are favorites, but gender-neutral yellow, green and white are also quite popular gifts for parents who plan to have more children in the future. Newborns usually outgrow their clothes so fast the garments can be reused multiple times over.

Similar to real flower arrangements, baby bouquets vary in price, and come in a wide range of assortments and themes. The ‘Earlybirds Flowerbox' is designed for premature babies who need special attention, while the ‘Playtime Bouquet' contains more coordinated clothing for an active baby. If parents are expecting twins or triplets, specialized companies will also carry bouquets that will have at least one outfit for each child. Other bestsellers are ‘winter warmers' and ‘cuddle wrap' gift boxes.
Sophisticated layette bouquets include a mixture of quality clothes, some of which are made entirely of organic baby clothing. The attractively designed arrangements are presented in tin cans, arranged in a box, decorative ceramic bowl, or wicker basket, and can be held by an adorable, and machine washable, elephant toy or doll. The possibilities are endless!

Finding the ideal baby bouquet for a sister, friend, coworker or neighbor is easy. If you cannot find the perfect bloom assembly at a local brick-and-mortar store, you can always check out the successful baby gift businesses online. With the entire world at your fingertips you are bound to find that sweet surprise you are looking for!

Buying a gift on the Internet is a little different from real-world transactions. Before placing your order verify the following:
• What payment options are available?
• Do they ship to your location?
• What are the shipping charges? Some companies offer free shipping.
• When and how quickly they deliver?
• Do they offer a warrantee and what is their return policy?
• How can they be contacted in case there is a problem with the order?

Baby bouquets are original baby gifts, greatly appreciated by new moms and dads. They will bring you many valued oohhs and aahhhs, but most of all, will give you the joy of knowing that you helped give a new baby a great start in life.
